PRESENTING THE LIFE AND WORKS OF TAK CHUEN CHOI (1924-2001)

My father was born in a village on the outskirts of Guangdong (Canton), China.

He was the first in his family to enter university, receiving a degree in Chinese literature. During the turbulent years of war and revolution, he fled to the safety of Hong Kong, where he had a successful career as a high school teacher. He lived as a scholar and poet, his interest in nature and the human condition was reflected in his study of classical literature and found voice in his verse.

In his forties, fate unveiled a romantic twist when he fell in love with and married a former student, giving up the known security of his current life for a new start in America. From the earliest years in his new country he was awed by the beauty and grandeur of the landscape and took up watercolour painting to express his love of nature. Through watercolours he sought to capture the feeling of peace and comfort found from nature. Painting was also his humble worship of the majesty of creation and the creative spirit in us all.

At his death in 2001, he left over 300 paintings which he considered his best. He always had the dream that one day many others would be able to appreciate his work. We are honoured and privileged to now be able to share with you quality cards and prints of the original paintings. It is our hope that you will find joy and tranquility in these scenes which touched the artist, and perhaps get a glimpse of the sincere character of the man who painted them.
